PUBLIC SAFETY

Women and children are often in greatest danger where they should be safest – within their own homes.

Violence at the hand of those closest to us, those we should be able to trust, steals lives, destroys families, and devastates communities.  The toll can be physical, psychological, and financial.

Seventy people were killed in Maryland as a result of domestic violence in the 12-month period ending June 30, 2005. Five of those deaths were in Montgomery County alone. The year before, there were 69 deaths from domestic violence in Maryland, and 11 of those were in Montgomery County!

I will provide forceful, consistent leadership in the General Assembly to pursue necessary changes to our laws in order to protect the victims in abusive relationships!
